With an extensive history of success with projects in the health and medical services industry, CBCI jumped at the chance to take on this project when the call for bids was issued to create a complete, flexible and scalable advanced audio video integration system for the institute.

A project as complex as the human body

Adding to the importance of this project is the knowledge that these systems are used to teach and deliver essential lifesaving techniques.

The public sector tendering process is often long and exhaustive and can be a frantic race for the lowest bidder to win the contract. CBCI constantly strives to provide superior service and products, being able to offer a competitive price for this project required excellent negotiation skills and solid partnerships with product suppliers. This gave CBCI the winning edge and they were granted the contract.

While the execution of any project is a meticulous task, a project in the health care field becomes all the more complicated as it requires strict adherence to hygiene codes. The work had to be done in such a way that particulate contamination was controlled and the rooms had to be sterile with low-level humidity while being metal-free and antistatic in its architecture and ventilation.

This mandate required the design and implementation of many systems that not only had to function independently, but also needed to communicate with each other all while working around the existing cabling structure. With such a collection of multifaceted components, the risk of complications and delays was potentially very high.

Take a deep breath – we got it done

All systems chosen had to allow for the dissemination of clinical cases within the buildings and also outside of the institution during seminars, symposiums or conferences.

The CBCI team of design engineers and programmer technicians drew from all areas of their expertise to integrate the new state-of-the-art audio and video integration systems throughout the facility. The expansion of the Hemodynamics and Electrophysiology Department and a portion of the operating room enabled the relocation of three electrophysiology rooms, the addition of a hybrid intervention room and another audio-video integration system for room 6 of the operating room. In total, 5 rooms were built.

Cameras were strategically placed on the movable arms of the operating tables to allow doctors a precise view during delicate scalpel manipulations. Ceiling speakers were built in to prevent dust from accumulating at the control station and in the procedure room. Microphone systems were installed for communication and even a surround sound system was integrated to play relaxing music during open-heart procedures; as you can imagine, relaxation is essential to ease the tension. By doing all of this, the Institute is now able to optimize the distribution of knowledge and provide clinical staff with complete and simplified access to information.

CBCI also trained key members of the institute’s staff on how to use the new equipment in order to empower them to set up their presentations, troubleshoot and fix problems and use the systems to their maximum potential. Of course, CBCI will always be there with their second-to-none support services when needed.
