CBCI Telecom Named Top 50 Best Employer!
CBCI Telecom is honored to be named among the Top 50 Best Small and Medium Employers (BSME) in Canada. The study, now in its fifth year, was published in the Globe and Mail yesterday.
Becoming a Top 50 BSME is a very detailed and competitive process. This national awards program recognizes top employers with between 50 and 400 employees. This study mirrors the renowned Best Employer in Canada initiative run by partner, Hewitt Associates; however, caters to smaller businesses.
The rankings are primarily determined using the results from Employee Opinion Surveys. Here, 18 key engagement drivers are detailed and analyzed. The evaluation process also includes the assessment of organization practices and perspectives from the leadership team. This year, more than 250 companies across Canada registered to participate in the study.
“CBCI Telecom always considers that talented employees are the greatest asset to a company, and this recognition reinforces that we are on the right path” said Jeff Speak, co-president of CBCI Telecom.
“Every company strives to attain this recognition and level of employee satisfaction. It’s through team work and dedication that we have accomplished our goals” said Richard Belitzky, co-president of CBCI Telecom.
Study partners include Queen's School of Business, Queen’s Centre for Business Venturing and Hewitt Associates. More information about the Best Small & Medium Employers in Canada is available online at http://business.queensu.ca/qcbv/sme.

Bell Mobility assists LG Electronics in LG 150 mobile phone recall
Source: Bell announcements
Bell Mobility announced that it is supporting LG Electronics Canada Inc. in its voluntary recall of approximately 45,000 LG 150 phones in use by Bell Mobility clients with a no-charge phone replacement program.
LG was notified by one of the independent bodies responsible for the certification of mobile phones that the LG 150 mobile phone is no longer certified as meeting the Radio Standards Specifications 102 (RSS 102), Radio Frequency Exposure Compliance of Radiocommunication Apparatus. Consequently, LG has decided to implement a voluntary recall of the LG 150 phone in Canada.
Health Canada is of the opinion, based on the review of test results and its assessment of current science, that the past and current use of the LG 150 should not pose immediate or long-term health concerns.
"We are supporting LG in the implementation of its LG 150 recall program," said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility. "Effective today, our clients who own the LG 150 can take advantage of the straightforward and no-cost phone replacement program we've put in place."
No other LG phones and no other phones supplied to Bell Mobility by any other manufacturers are affected by this recall. Bell Mobility clients with LG 150 phones can return them to a Bell Store from today until March 31, 2009 and receive an LG replacement phone at no cost in accordance with the terms of LG's recall program.
The LG 150 sold by Bell Mobility is a compact black flip-phone that can be identified by removing the battery on the back of the phone and reading the label underneath. It reads: "MODEL NO / MODELE: LG 150".

Traveling Abroad Part 1: Europe & Asia
By John Gomes - CSR, Montreal
Traveling has become a necessity of life and whether it is for business or pleasure we always have communication needs. Even though you may be on vacation, you may find yourself browsing through your work related emails on your phone.
When traveling abroad, you need to know what services are available on your cell phones.
Traveling to Europe or Asia requires a GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) compatible cell phone is order to have service on your device which uses a SIM card. If traveling within North America, you can rely on your old fashion CDMA (Code division multiple access) device for communicating back and forth to Canada.
You can visit Bell’s web site to find out where you can use your cell phone and the roaming charges which apply (click here). It is important to note that the charges are not billed right away and that the wireless companies that bill your usage will send the charges over to Bell so it can be applied on your next billing cycle. It may take up to 90 days for all of the usages to be applied so don’t be surprised.
At this moment there are two devices compatible to the GSM network, The Blackberry 8830 World Edition and the Samsung Ace which can be used for both voice and data abroad. To activate the GSM functions of these phones and to assure you have service, please follow the procedures outlined below:
Automatic Global Network Selection:
- Select Applications
- Go to Manage Connections
- Select Mobile Network Options
- Select Network Mode
- Select Global
If the automatic selection does not work, you will need to manually choose a carrier by following the steps below:
1) Select GSM mode:
- Select Applications
- Go to Manage Connections
- Select Mobile Network Options
- Select Network Mode
- Select GSM
* Please note that you will need to call data support at 1-877-328-2123 to activate your SIM card 24-48 hours before you leave or your device will not work overseas.
You may at any moment contact us at CBCI Telecom for further assistance on your traveling needs and one of our customer service agents will be glad to guide you in the right direction.

CBCI Product Review
Sennheiser BW 900
by Michel Blais – Service, Montreal
A few weeks ago the Sennheiser representative came to show us the new BW 900 headset. He told us it was the best in the business; that the sound quality was second to none and that the noise canceller was exceptional. He was telling us how he tried it with his windows down on the highway, he event went as far as aligning his drivers side window a fright liner and his voice came clear on the other side. I was listening to him speak in disbelief. I have to admit that he was right.
I personally took the BW 900 with me in my car and called Normand. I had the radio volume up till I couldn’t hear what Normand was telling me, I couldn’t even tell if he was even talking at all; on his side, he could hear everything I said. It was so clear, it was as if I was there beside him; the noise canceller feature blocked all the radio noise, but my voice. We switched and we did the experiment again. I was convinced. I have tried a lot of Bluetooth models, (both with and without noise cancelling features) and most where good at blocking wind sound and music to a certain degree, but I have never tried one that even came close to this one!
The BW 900 is compatible with mobiles and landlines. Another great feature of the BW 900 is that you can talk with the on your office phone, and with a click of a button you can put the person on hold and answer your mobile phone! It has a range of 10 meters for 1.1 and 1.2 norms and 100 meters for the 2.0 norm. It can be worn of the right ear or the left and the device will know to switch which side the sound comes out of, automatically! There are not many products deserving so much praise, but CBCI Telecom is proud to recommend the Sennheiser BW 900 for all your office and personal needs.

The following is a procedure to double check your SIM CARD on your BlackBerry.
When the BlackBerry is powered up for the first time it will ask the following question:
You have inserted a SIM CARD. Would you like your BlackBerry to automatically select CDMA or GSM based on the network availability?
You should Click YES
If this does not appear, there are 3 possibilities:
- There is no SIM CARD inserted in BlackBerry
- The SIM CARD is inserted incorrectly
- The SIM CARD is defective
Once the BlackBerry is configured, it will then be verified by a second source to insure that all programming was done correctly. It will verify that the SIM CARD corresponds both to your mobile number and to the one we assigned to the device.
In order to verify the number of SIM CARD, the following steps are necessary:
- Click on APPLICATION BUTTON ( located to the left of the track ball)
- Click on the WRENCH ICON (option)
- Scroll down to ADVANCED OPTIONS and select it
- Scroll down to SIM CARD select it
After selecting the SIM CARD option, the number will appear automatically.
Stay tuned for more tips and tricks next month.
